Description
Restroom urinal odors are a serious problem for schools, healthcare facilities, restaurants, housekeeping and for maintenance managers in general. Often, urinal drains with uric acid buildup are the source of these odors. Uric Acid buildup can slow down or block your drains.
Crete has been formulated for industrial and commercial applications specifically for the treatment of urinals. Crete treats the source of the problem and provides a solution for ongoing maintenance avoiding the chance of recurring odors. With regular applications, you can avoid expensive plumbing repairs to your drains.
Urinal Cakes or Urinal Blocks are ok to use but only mask the odor. They do not solve the problem. With the correct Crete maintenance program in effect, snaking or removing a urinal from the wall should be a rare occurrence.
Product Features
- Rapidly dissolves uric acid and calcium scale—the primary cause of slow drains, backups, and persistent urinal odors.
- Restores urinal drain lines and p-traps to full diameter for improved flow and long-lasting performance.
- Saves time and labor by reducing the need for snaking, mechanical clearing, or removing fixtures from the wall.
- Safe on ABS, PVC, copper, and steel plumbing; targets mineral buildup without harming pipe materials.
- Low-odor, no-fume formulation for safer indoor use in high-traffic commercial washrooms.
- Ideal for both corrective and preventive maintenance—leave overnight for maximum descaling power.
- Versatile industrial descaler: also effective on coils, heat exchangers, humidifiers, and waterless urinals.

FAQ
Brodi Crete – Frequently Asked Questions
1. How long should Crete sit in the drain to clear a slow-running urinal?
For slow drains, allow Crete to sit for 45 minutes to 1 hour. This gives the product enough time to dissolve uric salts and calcium scale, which are the main causes of slow flow.
2. What should I do if the urinal is completely clogged and not draining at all?
For full blockages, pour a full 16 oz bottle directly into the trap and let it sit for 6–8 hours. A second application may be required for heavy buildup. If the drain remains fully blocked, the issue may be a foreign object or mechanical obstruction that Crete cannot clear.
3. Can Crete clean calcium or uric scale stains inside the urinal bowl?
Yes. Crete is effective at removing hard mineral scale from urinal bowl surfaces. Apply directly to the stained areas, allow time to dwell, and scrub if needed.
4. Will Crete damage my plumbing system?
No. When used as directed, Crete is safe for ABS, PVC, copper, and other common plumbing materials. It targets mineral scale only and does not attack pipe materials. Crete is also safe for septic systems.
5. Can I use a snake or auger while Crete is still in the line?
No. Always flush the urinal thoroughly several times to remove Crete before using mechanical tools. This ensures safety and prevents unwanted chemical contact.
6. What if I notice odor or “smoke” after applying Crete?
Crete normally produces no foul odor. If fumes appear, it is usually due to a reaction with a previous chemical left in the drain. Flush thoroughly. If odor persists, treat the line with Brodi HDJ 925.
7. Do I need to remove standing water before applying Crete?
Removing water can help, but it is not required. Crete is designed to displace standing water and reach the mineral buildup directly.
8. Can Crete still work if it has frozen and thawed?
Yes. Freezing does not damage the product. Once thawed, Crete will perform as intended.
9. Can Crete be mixed with other cleaners?
No. Never mix Crete with other chemicals, especially bleach or alkaline cleaners. Crete is a specialized descaler, and mixing chemicals can reduce performance or cause dangerous reactions.
10. How can I prevent uric scale and odors from returning after using Crete?
Use Crete on a regular maintenance schedule based on urinal traffic. Maintain consistent cleaning and flushing. For long-term odor control, pair Crete with Brodi HDJ 925 or another Brodi maintenance product.
How to Use
How does a Urinal Descaler work?
When bodily wastes like urine leave the body, it immediately reacts with oxygen and breaks down. Sitting urine interacts with the uric acid naturally contained in it, changing the chemical structure into ammonia. This ammonia is highly alkaline eventually forming into crystals that are hard to remove with conventional cleaners. This scale adheres to toilet bowls and the urinal drainpipe, especially in the “p-trap”.
A urinal descaler such as Crete sits in the urinal “p-trap” and dissolves all forms of scale, the cause of slow running and foul-smelling urinals. This eliminates the uric acid/salt build-up not just disguising it like many other so-called urinal cleaners. It also helps prevent future uric salt build-up. Crete even works with waterless urinals.
Instructions
For treating urinal odors and issues in public buildings, police stations, fire stations, hockey arenas, baseball and football stadiums, hospitals, shopping malls, schools, military bases, movie theatres, government buildings, ambulance stations, public swimming pools, restaurants, amusement parks, convention centres, etc.
Crete works by first restoring urinal drains to their original working diameter, and with regular applications, keeping the drains flowing properly avoiding future build-ups.
A minimum of twelve 16 oz. bottles are required for a typical maintenance cycle.
Regular Maintenance Dosage:
Use daily to remove long-term build-up in high traffic installations.
Use weekly, for 12 weeks, as preventative maintenance for areas of average usage.
For Initial Treatment:
- Pour 16oz of Crete into the trap of the urinal.
- Allow to work overnight or for as long as possible.
- Tape a bag over the urinal during business hours to make sure nobody uses it
- Flush it in the morning a few times.
- The drain should be restored to its original diameter with most odor-causing scale removed.
